My review + photos (if photos are too big, please let me know & I will resize/cut) -
Lights were rather wonky (think "stadium-rock style" in a small club), so these did have to be filtered for levels & noise-reduction. So sue me.
Final Fantasy. Little Owen didn't dissapoint, other than one jackass who said "this is garbage!" quite loudly during his first number. I'm sure that individual was quickly shown the error of his ways. The fans clearly wanted a longer set than the 6 or so songs he performed, but for some (bizarre) reason he was slated as the opener, and thems the breaks.
Wooden Stars. A perfect example of why the cuteness factor is an important element for a band. They didn't lack talent, just charisma & a sense of direction (the feedback-y noodling occasionally ventured into Phish territory). Sorry, but I found them uncompelling enough that I didn't take photos.
Bell Orchestre. Gorgeous, and chock FULL of aforementioned cute factor. Sarah Neufeld is incredibly talented, and I was pretty damn impressed with Peitro's french horn (having played one in high school, I can attest to how difficult being so pitch-on is). Just like with FF, I wanted more than the 45-minute set they were allowed. They will soon catch on BIG outside of their native Montreal (and on their own merits, not just for their Arcade Fire affiliation), so watch out.
(Additional show photos for both at Rock // Paper // Pixels).
Best 8 bucks I've spent in a while. Was also a nice send-off for
